Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted that public transport currently accounts for only 5% of total transportation usage in Shillong. He expressed optimism that the introduction of the new buses will encourage more residents to shift towards public transport, thereby easing traffic congestion in the city and its surrounding areas.
The initiative aligns with the state government’s vision under the Shillong Urban Mobility Policy. With the launch of ‘Ka Bos Jong Ngi’, the government aims to increase public transport usage to 30% by 2030.
Officials stated that the new fleet is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce vehicular pressure on roads, and promote a more sustainable and efficient transportation system for Shillong.
