Assam's Lovlina Borgohain Wins Gold at BOXAM Elite 2026 in Spain

Guwahati, February 8: Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain added another prestigious title to her glittering career by winning the women’s 75kg gold medal at the BOXAM Elite 2026 boxing tournament held in La Nucia, Alicante, Spain. The celebrated boxer from Assam showcased exceptional form throughout the competition, defeating top international opponents to emerge champion at one of the season’s most competitive elite boxing events.

Lovlina sealed the title with a hard-fought 4:1 split-decision victory over England’s Mary-Kate Smith in the final. The championship bout lived up to expectations as both boxers exchanged sharp attacks in a closely contested contest. Lovlina, however, displayed superior tactical awareness, excellent ring control, and precise punching combinations, particularly in the latter stages of the bout, convincing four of the five judges to award her the victory.

The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist had begun her campaign in dominant fashion with an emphatic 5:0 unanimous decision win over Ukraine’s Olha Pylypchuk. She controlled the contest from the opening bell, combining disciplined defence with accurate punches and confident footwork. Her commanding performances throughout the tournament reaffirmed her reputation as one of the finest boxers in the women’s 75kg division.

The BOXAM Elite 2026 tournament attracted more than 200 boxers representing 20 countries, making it one of the most competitive international boxing events of the year. India enjoyed a remarkable campaign, sending 12 boxers to the finals—the highest among participating nations—followed by Kazakhstan with 11 finalists, Ukraine with five, and host nation Spain with four. India was guaranteed at least one gold medal, with the women’s 54kg category featuring an all-Indian final.

Hailing from Assam’s Golaghat district, Lovlina Borgohain continues to strengthen her legacy in Indian boxing. An Olympic bronze medallist, world championship medallist, and Commonwealth Games champion, she has consistently delivered outstanding performances on the international stage.
