Guwahati, February 8: Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain clinched the gold medal in the women’s 75kg category at the BOXAM Elite 2026, delivering a series of dominant performances at the prestigious event held in La Nucia, Alicante.

In a closely contested final, Lovlina displayed remarkable skill and composure, defeating England’s Mary-Kate Smith by a 4:1 split decision. The bout was fiercely competitive, but her sharp combinations, tactical ring control and precise execution proved decisive in the closing rounds.
The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist began her campaign on a strong note with a 5:0 win over Ukraine’s Olha Pylypchuk, where she controlled the bout from start to finish with precise punching and composed movement. Her consistent form through the rounds underlined her status as one of the world’s leading boxers in the 75kg division.

The BOXAM Elite 2026 featured over 200 boxers from 20 countries, making it one of the most competitive elite boxing tournaments. India emerged as the most represented nation in the finals with 12 boxers, ahead of Kazakhstan (11), Ukraine (5) and host Spain (4). The Indian contingent was assured of at least one gold medal, with the Elite Women’s 54kg category witnessing an all-Indian final.
Hailing from Assam, Lovlina Borgohain is one of India’s most accomplished boxers, with achievements including an Olympic bronze medal, a world championship title and multiple international podium finishes. Her gold medal at the BOXAM Elite 2026 further strengthens India’s momentum in women’s boxing and serves as a major boost ahead of upcoming global competitions.
