Jorhat, February 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated the new campus of Assam Women's University in Jorhat, describing the occasion as a "red-letter day" for the state and a significant milestone in expanding higher education opportunities for women. The new campus is expected to strengthen academic excellence, research, and innovation while empowering women through quality education.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the university's modern infrastructure would provide a conducive environment for learning and research, enabling young women to pursue higher education and contribute meaningfully to society. He reiterated the state government's commitment to creating world-class educational institutions that prepare students for future challenges.
During his visit, Sarma also inaugurated the Jorhat Government Law College, providing aspiring law students with improved facilities to pursue legal education within the district. In addition, he inaugurated three Adarsha Vidyalayas, including two Tea Garden Model Schools in Mariani, aimed at expanding access to quality school education for students from tea garden communities and rural areas.
The Chief Minister said the newly inaugurated educational institutions would help students continue their studies closer to home, reducing the need to travel long distances for higher education. He added that strengthening educational infrastructure remains one of the government's key priorities in ensuring inclusive and equitable development across Assam.

As part of the programme, Sarma also distributed benefits under the Chief Minister's Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan (CMAAA) to around 6,000 youths from the districts of Majuli, Jorhat, and Golaghat. The scheme is designed to promote entrepreneurship by providing financial assistance and support to young people, enabling them to establish businesses and generate local employment opportunities.
Describing the atmosphere in Jorhat as one of celebration, the Chief Minister said that sustained investments in education, skill development, and entrepreneurship would play a vital role in building a self-reliant Assam. He emphasised that empowering women, supporting students from underserved communities, and encouraging youth entrepreneurship are essential pillars of the state's long-term development strategy.
The inauguration of the university campus, educational institutions, and distribution of entrepreneurship benefits reflects the Assam government's continued focus on improving educational access, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities across the state.
