Itanagar, February 24, 2026: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday joined the historic Golden Jubilee celebration marking 50 years of Nyokum Yullo festivities in the Bameng constituency of East Kameng district, emphasizing the festival’s cultural importance and announcing development projects worth ₹67 crore for the region.

Addressing a large gathering at the landmark event, Khandu described Nyokum Yullo as much more than a traditional festival, calling it a symbol of the deep and enduring relationship between people, nature, and community. He offered prayers for peace, prosperity, harmony, and the continued well-being of the people.
Celebrated by the Nyishi community, Nyokum Yullo is one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most important indigenous festivals. The term “Nyokum” is derived from the words “Nyok,” meaning land or earth, and “Kum,” meaning togetherness or collectiveness. The festival involves prayers to the Nyokum deity seeking blessings for a bountiful harvest, good health, social harmony, and protection from natural calamities.

The Golden Jubilee celebration showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Nyishi tribe through traditional rituals, folk songs, dances, and community gatherings. Thousands of people from different parts of the state participated in the event, reflecting a strong sense of unity and cultural pride.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced development projects worth ₹67 crore for Bameng, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring sustainable development in the constituency. He said the projects are aimed at accelerating growth, enhancing connectivity, and creating better opportunities for local residents.
“Let this Golden Jubilee mark a new beginning. Let us work together to build a stronger and self-reliant Bameng,” Khandu said, urging citizens to actively participate in the region’s development while preserving their cultural identity and traditions.
The celebration concluded with renewed optimism for both cultural preservation and future progress in Bameng.
