DIMAPUR, February 10: Renowned singer-songwriter Alobo Naga took centre stage at the Literary-cum-Cultural Day celebration of MGM College on February 9, inspiring students with his words and music at the college auditorium.

Gracing the event as the guest of honour, Alobo Naga inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp alongside Principal Dr R K Behera, Administrator Fr Gigu George, Head of the English Department Ahikali I Jakha, and Dean of Students Lisathung Ovung.
In his keynote address, Alobo Naga spoke passionately about the importance of remaining rooted in one’s traditions amid modern influences. Urging students to embrace their tribal identity with pride, he emphasised that traditional elements can be creatively blended with contemporary art forms to express cultural uniqueness on wider platforms.
Beyond his address, Alobo Naga also captivated the audience by presenting a live song, turning the session into a memorable highlight of the day and drawing warm applause from students and faculty alike.
Earlier, Principal Dr R K Behera, in his welcome address, highlighted the role of literature and culture in shaping identity and critical thinking. The programme also featured a special drama by the Sahitya Club of the English Department focusing on the preservation of heritage.

The celebration included literary competitions such as debate, slam poetry, art, and essay writing, followed by a colourful cultural showcase featuring folk fusion songs, traditional dances, cultural fire-making, winnowing demonstrations, traditional attire displays, and a talent show.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Cultural Secretary Disong Waineikum and a benediction by MGM E.U. President Nikaho Awomi.
