Kohima, February 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland unit on Monday organised a press conference at its State Head Office in Kohima to discuss the key provisions and developmental vision of the Union Budget 2026–27, with party leaders highlighting its potential to accelerate growth, connectivity, youth empowerment, and economic opportunities across Nagaland and the wider Northeast region.
The media briefing was led by Kirti Vardhan Singh, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in the presence of Nagaland Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along and BJP advisor Kropol Vitsu. The programme was attended by party workers, media representatives, and other stakeholders interested in understanding the implications of the Union Budget for the state and the region.
Addressing the gathering, Kirti Vardhan Singh emphasised that the Northeast continues to occupy a central place in the Union Government's development agenda. He stated that the Budget reflects the Centre's commitment to ensuring balanced regional growth and creating opportunities for states that have historically faced geographical and infrastructural challenges.
According to Singh, the Union Budget provides enhanced support for critical sectors such as connectivity, tourism, infrastructure development, and youth-focused initiatives. He noted that improved transportation networks, better digital connectivity, and expanded development programmes would help unlock the economic potential of the Northeast while improving the quality of life for its people.
The Union Minister highlighted that the Budget aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which seeks to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of Independence. He said the government's approach combines economic growth with environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and inclusive development to ensure that no region is left behind in the country's progress.
Singh also pointed to the importance of tourism as a driver of economic development in Nagaland and the Northeast. He stated that investments in tourism infrastructure, cultural promotion, and eco-tourism initiatives could generate employment opportunities, attract investment, and contribute significantly to local economies. At the same time, he stressed the need to balance development with environmental conservation, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions.
Describing the Budget as a major step toward building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), Singh said it provides a framework for strengthening local economies, encouraging entrepreneurship, and promoting innovation. He added that effective coordination between the Centre and the states would be crucial in ensuring that the benefits of national policies reach every district and community.
Nagaland Minister Temjen Imna Along also addressed the gathering and described the Budget as a “concrete step” towards achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat@2047. He said the Budget reflects confidence in India's economic future through its emphasis on reforms, fiscal stability, investment-led growth, and human capital development.
According to Along, the focus on youth empowerment, support for the middle class, skill development, and growth-oriented sectors creates a strong foundation for long-term economic prosperity. He particularly welcomed the Budget's attention to Eastern India and the Northeast, stating that these regions have immense potential to contribute to the country's growth story.
