79th Chakhesang Students’ Union General Conference Concludes, New Leaders Elected

Zuketsa, Phek, Feb 5: The three-day 79th General Conference of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) concluded on Thursday evening at Zuketsa local ground in Phek district, marking an important organisational milestone for the student body.

Hosted by the Zuketsa Students’ Union (ZSU), the conference was held under the theme “Nurturing identity through knowledge and culture.” The valedictory session witnessed the announcement of a new CSU leadership team for the 2026–28 tenure by the nomination committee.

Povozo Soho was elected president, with Lindi Nienu as vice president and Rhile Chiero as general secretary. Other office bearers include Kekhroche Koza (assistant general secretary), Surhulu Zholia (treasurer), Ruvekho Lüpo-o (education secretary), Khove Dzüdo (social & culture secretary), Razunu D Vadeo (games & sports secretary), and Aveto Resu (media secretary). The assembly executives comprise Wedo Khalo as speaker, Vesuta Kezo as deputy speaker, and Dr Riweu Kenye as assembly secretary.

Addressing the valedictory session as the chief guest, Zhothisa Dawhuo, Secretary, Women Resource Development, Government of Nagaland, stressed that hard work is the foundation of success, skills, and enterprise. He urged students to maintain discipline, remain purpose-driven, and prepare themselves to face future challenges. Dawhuo also encouraged the CSU to continue mentoring competitive examination aspirants with support from the Chakhesang Gazetted Officers Association.

Greetings were delivered by Rongley Leyri, president of the Pochury Students’ Union, who emphasised strengthening the brotherly ties between the Chakhesang and Pochury communities. Outgoing CSU president Pfhulo Sara and newly elected president Povozo Soho also addressed the gathering.

Earlier in the day, a seminar on entrepreneurship and competitive examinations was held. Neichute Doulo, CEO of Entrepreneurs Associates, called for a mindset shift among Nagas towards entrepreneurship, while Vekhohu Puro, EAC, Peren Headquarters, spoke on strategies for competitive exams. The session was moderated by Vipanyi Krome, former finance secretary of CSU.

The Lt Goyiepra Kenye Meritorious Award was presented to deserving students, and Rev Vezopa Rhakho offered a dedicatory prayer for the new office bearers. The programme was chaired by Vekhoto Tetseo, with Medovi Rhi proposing the vote of thanks.

At the conclusion of the conference, the Phek Students’ Union (PSU) was adjudged the best disciplined unit.
