Churachandpur, Jan 26: The United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has strongly condemned an arson attack on K. Songlung village, terming it a “cowardly act” and alleging the involvement of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF–Kamson group), which it described as a proxy operating under the influence of the NSCN-IM.

In a statement issued on January 26, 2026, the UKNA accused NSCN-IM of substituting political dialogue with violence and intimidation, asserting that attacks on civilian settlements reflect a recurring pattern rather than an isolated incident. The group stated that such actions result in civilian suffering and undermine any claim of political legitimacy.

The UKNA reiterated that Kuki armed groups, despite being armed, have consistently pursued political solutions within the constitutional framework of India. It emphasized that violence against civilians, including women and children, does not advance political discourse or strengthen negotiating positions.

Clarifying its stance, the UKNA stated that it does not view innocent civilians as instruments of political struggle and noted that the Kuki people have already endured prolonged violence committed in the name of ideology. The group called upon NSCN-IM and its affiliates to abandon coercive tactics and engage in dialogue within the sovereign framework of the Indian nation.

Concluding the statement, the UKNA asserted that arson and proxy violence cannot substitute political engagement and urged all parties involved to renounce violence and pursue sincere dialogue grounded in constitutional realities. The statement was issued by the Department of Information, UKNA.
