Imphal, January 13, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, a combined team of Manipur Police, security forces, and the Forest Department destroyed nearly 95 acres of illegal poppy cultivation at two locations in Manipur on Tuesday.
According to an official statement, about 65 acres of poppy fields were destroyed at the Govok hill range under Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district. During the operation, two temporary huts, along with poppy pods, poppy seeds, and other related materials found at the site, were also destroyed.
In a separate operation on the same day, another combined team comprising security forces, the Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate destroyed approximately 30 acres of poppy cultivation at the Sadim hills range under Senapati Police Station in Senapati district.
The coordinated actions form part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation and drug-related activities in the State. Authorities have reiterated that such drives will continue in order to curb narcotics production, protect forest land, and maintain law and order.
Manipur Police have urged the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and report any information related to illegal cultivation or drug trafficking.
