Imphal, Jan 25: In view of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, security forces across Manipur have intensified search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable locations, leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives over the past two days.

On January 24, security forces recovered arms and ammunition from the area between Loilamkot and Nalon under Churachandpur Police Station. The seized items included three RPG ammunition, five 30 mm grenades, one bolt action rifle, two pumpis, three pumpi shells, two single barrel rifles and ten SBBL cartridges.
On the same day, another major recovery was made from Elangba Ching in the Wangoo area under Wangoo Police Station in Kakching district. The haul comprised one Ghatak assault rifle, two DBBLs, three SBBLs, four HE grenades, two magazines, four tube launching devices, 35 live rounds of different calibers, 14 empty cases, eight tear smoke grenades, eight tear smoke shells, two Baofeng handsets with chargers, one bulletproof jacket without plate, one HYT mobile radio, two pairs of boots and three helmets.
Meanwhile, security forces neutralized three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on January 24 at the Indo-Myanmar Border under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district.
On January 25, further recoveries were reported from multiple locations. From the Terakhongshang forest area of Teijang village under Churachandpur Police Station, forces seized one M-A II MK II rifle with magazine, one AK magazine, 66 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, two HE hand grenades, three IEDs weighing approximately 3.5 kg each, and one muzzle-loading barrel gun.
At Gourasingh Lok in the Luwangsangbam area under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district, four 36 HE hand grenades, two electric detonators, one stun grenade, 21 live rounds, 12 empty 7.62 mm cases, two INSAS LMG empty magazines and two bayonets were recovered.
Another cache was recovered from Kakmayai Lamkhai areas under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district, including one DBBL, four 36 HE hand grenades, six IEDs, two magazines, 138 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, three 12-bore cartridges and five detonators.

Additionally, on January 24, security forces recovered one IED weighing approximately 3.5 kg from Iroisemba Ching under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district. Other items seized included a WT handset with charger, five hand grenades, three carbine magazines, 102 live rounds of ammunition of different calibers, two empty .303 cases, 11 live lathode shells, three live tear smoke shells, nine detonators and one arm ring.
Officials said the intensified operations are part of preventive security measures to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations, and further search operations are continuing across sensitive areas.
