Mon, January 23: In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure and emergency medical services in Mon district, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, has provided two ambulances under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) at Tizit and Wakching.
The ambulances were formally handed over during a programme attended by district officials and health department representatives. Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, NCS, expressed appreciation to NHIDCL for extending support to the healthcare sector and acknowledged the corporation’s continued commitment to community welfare beyond infrastructure development.
During the handover ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner presented the keys of the ambulances to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mon, and urged the concerned department to ensure proper maintenance, responsible management and effective utilization of the vehicles. He emphasized that the ambulances should be deployed judiciously to meet the healthcare needs of people, particularly those living in remote and underserved areas of the district.
The Chief Medical Officer also conveyed gratitude to NHIDCL for the initiative, stating that the addition of the ambulances would significantly enhance the district’s emergency medical response capabilities. He noted that access to timely transportation remains one of the major challenges in healthcare delivery, especially in rural and difficult-to-reach areas where patients often face delays in reaching medical facilities.
According to the CMO, the new ambulances will play a crucial role in transporting patients during medical emergencies, accidents and other critical situations. He added that the service would be particularly beneficial for pregnant women requiring urgent maternal care, elderly patients, accident victims and individuals in need of immediate medical attention.

Officials pointed out that reliable ambulance services can often make the difference between life and death by ensuring prompt access to healthcare facilities and specialized treatment. The new vehicles are therefore expected to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes across the district.
It may be recalled that NHIDCL has previously contributed to healthcare and public service infrastructure in Nagaland. In April 2021, the corporation donated 24 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances to the Government of Nagaland, followed by the donation of four ambulances to the Nagaland Police in October the same year.
Following the handover ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner flagged off the ambulances to their respective destinations at Tizit and Wakching. The initiative marks another important step towards improving healthcare accessibility, strengthening emergency response systems and enhancing the quality of medical services available to the people of Mon district.
