The campaign was conducted under the theme “Let the New Year begin with Road Safety, Kindness and Responsibility”. Unlike conventional indoor programmes, the initiative was carried out as a street-level awareness drive, enabling direct engagement with drivers, two-wheeler riders, and members of the public.
As part of the programme, free helmets were distributed to encourage the use of protective gear among two-wheeler riders. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials were also handed out to spread awareness about traffic rules, safe driving practices, and responsible road behaviour.
To further amplify the message, banners and flex displays were installed at key locations across Shamator town. A street-level sensitisation drive was also undertaken, during which motorists were educated on the importance of safety kits, adherence to traffic regulations, and cooperative use of roads.
Addressing the participants, EAC Mekato J. Aye emphasised that with improving road infrastructure and a growing population in Shamator, road safety has become an urgent priority. He added that such awareness initiatives would be conducted regularly and would not be treated as a one-time exercise.
The programme aimed to foster a culture of safety, responsibility, and mutual cooperation among all road users in the district, contributing towards safer roads and reduced traffic-related risks.
