Baghmara, Jan 15, 2026: The Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, on Thursday visited South Garo Hills and undertook an extensive tour of key development sites in Baghmara. He was accompanied by his wife, Babita Malhotra.
The visit began with an inspection of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ampangre, where the Minister reviewed the progress of the PM SHRI Schools initiative. He visited the school library, science laboratory, music room and hostels, and interacted with students and faculty members to understand academic and infrastructural needs.
The MoS later inspected a Digital Library, reviewed a Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road stretch from Rongru Asim earmarked for upgradation under PMGSY-III, and visited an Anganwadi Centre at Karawani. During these visits, he interacted with local residents, listened to public grievances and assured them of all possible support. He also sampled the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) meal prepared at the Anganwadi centre.
Continuing his tour, Malhotra visited the Baghmara Civil Hospital, where he interacted with hospital staff and took note of their issues and requirements. He also visited the Border Security Force (BSF) Border Outpost (BOP) at Baghmara and held discussions with personnel posted there.
Officials said the Minister will on Friday hold a comprehensive review meeting at the Circuit House Conference Hall, Baghmara, to assess the status of ongoing and completed centrally sponsored schemes being implemented across South Garo Hills district.
The visit underscored the Centre’s focus on monitoring grassroots implementation of development programmes and engaging directly with communities and frontline institutions in remote regions
