Imphal, Jan 28, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Manipur Police arrested a man and seized a large quantity of contraband opium in Churachandpur district on January 28.

According to an official statement, the arrested individual has been identified as Letminthang Haokip (45), a resident of Kanan Veng, Tuibong, Churachandpur district. He was apprehended by security forces from the Sangaikot–Sugnu Road near Khokon village under Churachandpur Police Station limits.
During the operation, security personnel recovered 37 plastic containers containing contraband opium weighing a total of 36.054 kilograms from his possession. In addition, one four-wheeler vehicle and a mobile handset along with a SIM card were also seized.
Police officials stated that the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle narcotics networks operating in the region. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband, and to identify any links to organised drug syndicates.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under relevant sections of the law, Manipur Police added.
