The display in Guwahati is a major stop on the global Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, a worldwide promotional initiative ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

The trophy arrived in Guwahati on January 13, transported from the airport to the ACA Stadium in Barsapara under high security. Hundreds of passionate fans, youth and families gathered to catch a glimpse of the prestigious silverware, which has previously only been exhibited in a limited number of Indian cities.

Officials and dignitaries welcomed the trophy in traditional Assamese fashion, celebrating not only a football spectacle but also the cultural pride of hosting a global icon in the region. The event was accompanied by vibrant music and cultural performances under the Coke Studio Bharat banner, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significance of the visit for the state’s growing concert and sports economy, describing the occasion as a major milestone in positioning Guwahati as a destination for world-class sporting and entertainment events. Thousands of spectators — including dedicated football fans and young athletes — are expected to attend the showcase throughout the day.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour has been designed to engage local communities, inspire young talent and broaden the reach of football across the globe. Guwahati’s inclusion on the tour route reflects the sport’s rising popularity in Northeast India and brings international football’s spirit closer to fans in the region.

For many, seeing the original World Cup Trophy — a symbol of sporting excellence — in person is not just a rare spectacle but also a source of encouragement for future generations of footballers from Assam and beyond.
