The extension project is aimed at enhancing accommodation and related facilities at Tripura Bhavan, which serves as an important transit and support centre for people from the state travelling to New Delhi for various purposes, including medical treatment, higher education, official work, business activities and cultural programmes.
According to officials, the project will involve the construction of six additional rooms and two hall rooms at an estimated cost of ₹2.95 crore. The expansion is expected to significantly improve the capacity and functionality of the facility, enabling it to accommodate a larger number of visitors and provide improved services to citizens from Tripura.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said the project reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and convenience of Tripura residents living in or visiting the national capital. He noted that many people from the state travel to New Delhi every year for specialized healthcare, educational opportunities, administrative work and business engagements, making the expansion of Tripura Bhavan a timely and necessary initiative.
“The extension of Tripura Bhavan will help us provide better facilities and a more comfortable environment for our people. It is an important step towards strengthening the support system available to citizens whenever they visit the national capital,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha emphasized that infrastructure development remains a key priority of the state government under its broader vision of ‘Viksit Tripura’. He stated that modern and efficient public infrastructure is essential not only within the state but also in locations where Tripura’s citizens frequently travel and require institutional support.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of state bhavans in fostering stronger connections between states and the national capital. Apart from serving as accommodation facilities, such institutions often act as centres for cultural exchange, official meetings and interactions that help showcase the unique identity and heritage of their respective states.
Officials said the additional rooms and halls will be designed to improve both residential and administrative functions at Tripura Bhavan. The new hall rooms are expected to facilitate meetings, official interactions and cultural events, while the expanded accommodation capacity will help address increasing demand from visitors.
The project is also expected to benefit students pursuing higher education in Delhi, patients and their families seeking treatment at major hospitals, government officials on official assignments and entrepreneurs visiting the capital for business-related activities. Improved facilities are likely to reduce accommodation challenges and provide a more convenient stay for visitors from Tripura.
Dr. Saha reiterated that the government is focused on creating citizen-centric infrastructure that enhances accessibility, efficiency and public welfare. He expressed confidence that the Tripura Bhavan extension project would strengthen the state's presence in New Delhi while offering tangible benefits to thousands of residents who depend on the facility each year.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by officials and representatives associated with the project. With construction set to begin shortly, the expansion is expected to provide a major boost to welfare-oriented infrastructure and further reinforce the connection between Tripura and the national capital.
Once completed, the upgraded Tripura Bhavan will serve as a more modern, spacious and efficient facility, reflecting the state government's commitment to supporting its citizens wherever they may be and advancing the broader goal of inclusive development under the vision of a progressive and developed Tripura.
