Guwahati, Jan 26: Marking a significant step towards strengthening skill and technical education in Upper Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Republic Day attended the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of the proposed EdTech Skills University at Gelapukhuri in Tinsukia.

The upcoming university, being developed with an investment of around ₹200 crore, aims to provide world-class, future-ready education tailored to emerging industry needs. The institution will offer specialised courses in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Hospitality, Food Processing and Bamboo Technology, officials said.
Spread across nearly 10 lakh square feet, the campus is designed to train up to 10,000 students at a time. The project is expected to play a key role in equipping youth with industry-relevant skills, enhancing employability and supporting Assam’s vision of a self-reliant and skilled workforce.

Officials from the Government of Assam said the EdTech Skills University would serve as a major hub for skill development in Upper Assam, aligning education with technological advancement and regional economic growth.
The initiative reflects the state government’s continued focus on transforming Assam into a centre for innovation, skill development and sustainable employment generation, particularly for young people in the region.
