Imphal, January 19: An Architects’ Meet was held at the City Convention Centre here on Monday to mark the Foundation Day of the Manipur Architects’ Forum (MAF). The event was organised in association with the Town Planning Department, Manipur, bringing together architects, planners, officials, and students to deliberate on contemporary urban challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director, Information & Public Relations, underscored the expanding role of architects beyond aesthetics. He highlighted the importance of legal compliance, climate-responsive design, seismic safety, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and the preservation of Manipur’s indigenous architectural identity in shaping sustainable cities.
The programme featured prize distribution for the World Architecture Day Essay Competition, felicitation of senior members of the Manipur Architects’ Forum, and the presentation of a Special Award to Benson for adopting and promoting the Online Building Permit System (OBPS), a move aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in urban development processes.

Technical sessions during the meet focused on climate change and Development Control Regulations, offering insights into policy frameworks and best practices for resilient urban planning. Participants discussed strategies to integrate sustainability, safety, and inclusivity into future projects across the state.
Organisers said the event reflected a collective commitment towards greener, safer, and more inclusive urban spaces in Manipur, while reaffirming the Manipur Architects’ Forum’s role in guiding responsible and context-sensitive development.
