Dimapur, January 30: he Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has voiced serious concern over the growing influence of armed groups and anti-social elements in various parts of Nagaland, warning that such activities pose a significant threat to public safety, social harmony, and the rule of law.
In a statement issued through its media cell, the organisation said the increasing presence and activities of criminal and anti-social elements have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among citizens. DAYO cautioned that if left unchecked, such activities could undermine peaceful coexistence, weaken public trust in institutions, and disrupt the stability that communities have worked hard to maintain.
The youth organisation urged all sections of society to stand united against criminality, intimidation, extortion, and lawlessness in any form. Emphasising the importance of collective responsibility, DAYO stated that no individual or group should be allowed to operate outside the framework of the law. It asserted that violence and coercion have no place in a democratic and civilised society and called on citizens to reject any attempts to normalise such behaviour.
Highlighting the role of community participation in maintaining peace, DAYO appealed to responsible citizens, civil society organisations, tribal bodies, and community leaders to remain vigilant and actively support lawful efforts aimed at curbing anti-social activities. According to the organisation, silence and indifference only encourage those seeking to destabilise peace and create divisions within society.
The organisation also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Dimapur Police Commissionerate under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Aotula T. Imchen. DAYO commended the police for their prompt and decisive actions in maintaining law and order, particularly in connection with operations that led to the arrest of alleged individuals linked to the Aoyimkum village incident. It noted that such actions demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring public safety and upholding justice.

Further, DAYO lauded Rupin Sharma, Director General of Police, Nagaland, for his continued efforts and proactive initiatives against criminal activities across the state. The organisation remarked that strong and consistent enforcement measures send a clear message that unlawful activities will not be tolerated and that offenders will be held accountable under the law.
Reaffirming its faith in the justice system, DAYO stressed that justice must be pursued strictly through legal and constitutional means. It cautioned against any form of vigilantism or attempts by individuals and groups to take the law into their own hands, stating that such actions could further complicate law-and-order situations.
The organisation concluded by reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public interests and supporting all lawful measures aimed at ensuring peace, security, and justice in Nagaland. It maintained that lasting peace can only be achieved through unity, discipline, mutual respect, and unwavering adherence to the rule of law, and called upon all stakeholders to work together in preserving these values for future generations.
