Aizawl, December 5, 2025: The ‘Mizoram Buyer Seller Meet 2025’, jointly organised by the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Mission Organic Mizoram, was formally inaugurated today at Aijal Club by Pu PC Vanlalruata, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
The event, graced by Horticulture Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga as Guest of Honour and Agriculture Secretary Pi Ramdinliani, brought together representatives from District Agriculture Marketing Committees, Farmer Producer Organisations, Self Help Groups, entrepreneurs, and several domestic companies across sectors.
Strengthening Market Linkages for Farmers
In his inaugural address, Agriculture Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers and enhancing their market access. He noted that the establishment of the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB) has been instrumental in promoting the marketing of locally produced crops such as ginger, turmeric, Mizo chillies, and passionfruit on a wider scale.
He emphasised that creating strong buyer–seller networks is essential for ensuring better returns and long-term sustainability for farmers. The Minister added that the Buyer Seller Meet plays a crucial role in facilitating direct connections with reliable buyers and encouraging market-driven production.
Pu Vanlalruata also reiterated that Aizawl’s strategic location has enabled greater trade opportunities. Under the Bana Kaih Scheme, the government has already procured turmeric worth ₹137 crore, reaffirming the State’s emphasis on organic and value-added agricultural produce.
Horticulture Sector Push and National Recognition
Horticulture Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga, in his remarks, stressed the importance of skill development and entrepreneurial support for farmers. He said the Bana Kaih Scheme is being effectively implemented to help growers increase production, value addition, and market competitiveness.
He highlighted that Mizoram’s horticulture products are known for their premium quality, adding that NITI Aayog has suggested that Mizoram has the potential to be recognised nationally as the “Ginger Capital of India.” He invited more national buyers to explore the State’s high-demand agri-horticultural produce.
Expanding Collection Centres and Strengthening Agri Infrastructure
Chief Minister’s Adviser (Hand Holding), Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, underscored the government’s continuous reforms to modernise agricultural marketing. He stated that Mizoram now has 65 operational Collection Centres across districts, enabling systematic aggregation, sorting, and distribution of products such as ginger, turmeric, Mizo chillies, and passionfruit.
He stressed the importance of market-oriented production, saying the State is adopting the principle of “Market First, Production Second,” ensuring farmers receive fair and timely prices. He also highlighted the significance of transparent farmer–buyer interactions for stable income generation.
Active Participation and Market Opportunities
During the opening session, Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary of Planning & Programme Implementation, spoke on the flagship Bana Kaih Scheme and the State’s support mechanisms for major crops. Pi Hanisha Vaswani, IFAD Consultant, shared insights on value-chain development and market-led production strategies.
Convener Pu H. Lallianzuala delivered the vote of thanks.
The 2025 Buyer Seller Meet features around 40 registered buyers from across India and 50 stalls showcasing Mizoram’s emerging agricultural, horticultural, and organic produce. The event aims to create long-term partnerships, promote agribusiness growth, and strengthen farmers’ income security across the State.
The meet is expected to significantly boost visibility, competitiveness, and market access for Mizoram’s farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.
