Saipum, December 5, 2025: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma today attended the 60th General Conference (Diamond Jubilee) and Sikpui Ruoi celebration of the Hmar Students Association (HSA) held at Rev. Dr. HS Thanglung Hall in Saipum. He was accompanied by Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama and IPR & PS Minister B. Lalchhanzova.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the historical significance of the HSA, noting it as one of the oldest student bodies among the Zo tribes, established in 1939. He commended the association for its enduring service to the student community, the preservation of cultural identity, and its contributions to social unity and development.
“The Hmar tribe is one of the largest among the Zo kindred tribes and serves as a pillar of the Mizo nation. Historical footprints of the Hmar people are evident across Mizoram, with ancient 'Sikpui Lung' monuments found in various locations,” the Chief Minister stated. He urged the community to take a leading role, acting as the fatu (primary facilitators) in fostering unity among all Zo tribes.
Focus on Youth and Development
Speaking to the students, Pu Lalduhoma encouraged them to choose their career paths wisely and pursue them with diligence. He emphasized that the state's most valuable resource is its human capital.
Highlighting the government's initiatives for youth over the past two years, he noted the successful filling of numerous vacant posts and the creation of new jobs. “The MPSC Calendar is being strictly followed, and recruitment is conducted with transparency and integrity. Candidates do not need political backing; their own merit is their best recommendation,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also outlined several key developmental milestones:
Education: Classes at the Mizoram Engineering College, Pukpui, are set to commence from the next academic year. Issues regarding the NIT Mizoram campus have been resolved, and efforts to establish a Mizoram State University are underway.
• Entrepreneurship: The 'Bana Kaih Scheme' has been re-introduced to support those seeking self-employment. The government provides interest-free loans based on project viability and stands as the guarantor for beneficiaries.
• Agriculture: A support price mechanism for five key crops has been implemented, significantly boosting the income of farmers in many villages this year.
• War on Drugs
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of a drug-free society, detailing government efforts such as the 'Hulhhliap Short Stay' homes for rehabilitation. He made a heartfelt appeal to HSA members to stay away from substance abuse, advising that the best prevention is to never experiment with drugs in the first place.
