In a statement released by its Council Headquarters, the TYCM condemned the continued occupation of the hostel building by paramilitary personnel, calling it “an unacceptable encroachment on tribal students’ facilities.”

The student body recalled that a formal representation and complaint had been submitted on August 22, 2025, to the concerned authorities, urging them to vacate the premises at the earliest. Despite repeated appeals, the matter remains unresolved.

The TYCM stressed that the government had been previously notified through representations addressed to the Governor of Manipur, the Chief Secretary, the Additional Chief Secretary (Tribal Affairs & Hills Department), and other officials on August 29, 2025. Additionally, the Council has also filed a formal complaint with the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) regarding the issue.

The organisation alleged that the prolonged occupation has disrupted the academic environment and deprived tribal girls of their rightful accommodation. “This is not only a denial of basic student facilities but also an affront to the welfare and safety of tribal women pursuing higher studies in Imphal,” the TYCM asserted.

Meanwhile, the TYCM urged the State Government to act swiftly and decisively, stating that restoring the hostel to its intended use is a matter of justice and dignity for tribal students.
