Security Forces Arrest Arms Smugglers, Militant Cadres in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 5, 2025: In a series of intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across Manipur, security forces have arrested multiple individuals involved in arms smuggling, extortion, and militant activities.

On August 4, two alleged arms smugglers were apprehended in separate operations in Imphal East district. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ningombam Abung Meitei @ Ibomcha (50) of Huidrom Awang Leikai, Lamlai-PS, and Ningthoujam Konungjao Meetei (33) of Keibi Khulen Makha Leikai, Sagolmang-PS.

From their possession, security forces seized:

One 9mm pistol with magazine

Two live rounds of 9mm ammunition

One Vespa scooter

Two mobile phones

One Aadhaar card

On August 5, an active cadre of the proscribed group KCP (MFL), identified as Naobi Leishangthem @ Youhenba (33) of Game Village Punshi Khul, Imphal West, was arrested from a rented house at Lamphel Yaipha Leikai. He was allegedly involved in extorting money from the public, mediating and settling criminal cases - particularly crimes against women - through intimidation. A mobile handset and Aadhaar card were recovered from him.

On the same day, an active cadre of KYKL, Sagolsem Hemanta Singh (41) of Phumlou Keiroi Maning Leikai, Imphal West, was arrested from his residence. He is accused of recruiting new members for the banned outfit. One mobile phone was seized during the operation.

Authorities stated that such operations will continue to curb extortion, arms smuggling, and militant recruitment activities in the state.
