Manipur Police, Security Forces Arrest 10 in Statewide Anti-Extortion Operations

IMPHAL, Aug. 14, 2025: In a series of intelligence-led combing operations and coordinated cordon-and-search drives across Manipur, police and security forces have arrested 10 individuals, including active insurgent cadres and extortionists, for their alleged involvement in extortion, threats, and other criminal activities.

According to official sources, the operations - conducted between August 12 and 13 - targeted insurgent networks and criminal groups engaged in unlawful collection of money from the public, obstruction of officials, and facilitation of organised crime.

On August 12, Manipur Police arrested three active cadres of KCP (PWG) from Wabagai Lamkhai area under Kakching Police Station, Kakching district. The accused-Pechimayum Bidyarani Devi (45) of Yairipok Pechi, Thoubal district; Khomdram Asha Devi (42) of Sekmajin Awang Leikai, Imphal West district; and Thokchom Jiban Singh alias Taton (51) of Thoubal Haokha Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district-were allegedly engaged in extortion targeting local residents. Police seized four mobile phones from their possession.

On the same day, security forces apprehended two active cadres of the PLA near Indo - Myanmar Border Pillar No. 85 under Tengnoupal Police Station. The arrested individuals were identified as Sinam Borish Singh (22) of Ngariyambam, Imphal West district, and Ningthoujam Meiraba Singh (24) of Thanga Salam Leikai, Bishnupur district.

On August 13, a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles arrested one active KCP (PWG) member, Sharangthem Sanatomba Singh alias Amuthoi (41) of Nungaipokpi Maning Leikai, Imphal East district. Authorities allege he was involved in extorting money from both civilians and government officials, issuing threats, illegally settling cases related to crimes against women, and unregulated money lending.

In another operation on the same day, Manipur Police arrested two extortionists from Keithelmanbi Vengpi area under Kangpokpi Police Station, Kangpokpi district. The accused - Paominthang Kipgen (32) of Molhoi village, Churachandpur district, and Seigoulal Kipgen (33) of Molnoi village, Kangpokpi district-were allegedly involved in sustained extortion in the area.

Authorities stated that the crackdown is part of intensified efforts to curb extortion, organised crime, and insurgent activity in the state. Investigations are ongoing, and the arrested individuals are being processed under relevant laws.
