Arms and Ammunition Recovered in Bishnupur District During Security Operation

IMPHAL, Aug 21: Security forces in Manipur recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation at Sunusiphai Patton area under Moirang police station in Bishnupur district on August 20, officials said.

According to Manipur Police, the recovered items included one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, one single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) gun, 15 live ammunition rounds of various calibres, 23 empty cartridges, a smoke grenade, one Baofeng radio set, six bulletproof jackets, and four bulletproof helmets.

The operation was part of the ongoing security measures to curb illegal arms movement and ensure stability in the conflict-affected state. The recovered items are suspected to have been used by armed groups operating in the area, police sources said.

Manipur Police stated that investigations are underway to trace the origin of the weapons and to identify individuals or groups responsible for stockpiling the arms.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to intensifying search operations across sensitive pockets of the state in order to prevent further violence and restore peace.
