Shillong/New Delhi, August 5: Meghalaya Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise N. Sangma on Tuesday met Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil in New Delhi and expressed gratitude to the Central Government for sanctioning ₹336.62 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 for the financial year 2026–27.

The Minister said the financial assistance would provide a major boost to the implementation of the Centre's flagship drinking water programme in Meghalaya and help strengthen efforts to ensure safe and reliable drinking water for households across the state.
According to Sangma, the approved funds will also enable the state government to clear at least one-third of the pending bills of contractors engaged in Jal Jeevan Mission projects. He said this would help speed up ongoing works and ensure smoother execution of water supply schemes in different parts of Meghalaya.
He added that the remaining instalments under the sanctioned amount would be released in due course, allowing the state to continue implementing the mission without disruption.
During the meeting, Sangma also briefed the Union Minister on Meghalaya's progress under Jal Jeevan Mission, including the state's reform-linked sustainability initiatives aimed at ensuring the long-term success of rural drinking water schemes. He said these efforts, along with the state's commitment to providing safe and clean drinking water, were appreciated by the Union Minister.
The PHE Minister also requested the Centre's support for the Resubelpara Water Supply Scheme, describing it as a crucial project that would ensure a reliable, safe and sustainable drinking water supply for the people of Resubelpara and surrounding areas.
Sangma said the meeting reflected the Centre's continued support for Meghalaya's efforts to strengthen water infrastructure and improve access to potable water, particularly in rural and underserved regions.
The Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 aims to provide functional household tap connections, improve water quality, and ensure the long-term sustainability of drinking water sources through better infrastructure, efficient management, and community participation. The newly sanctioned funds are expected to accelerate the implementation of these objectives and further improve drinking water services across Meghalaya.
