Guwahati, August 1: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday launched Orunodoi 3.0 at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, reaffirming the State Government's commitment to empowering women through direct financial assistance and strengthening social security for economically vulnerable families.

Under the latest phase of the flagship welfare scheme, more than 37 lakh women across Assam will receive monthly financial assistance. Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said Orunodoi has evolved beyond a welfare programme into a dependable social security framework that promotes financial inclusion while improving the economic well-being of families.
Sarma described the rollout of Orunodoi 3.0 as the first Budget announcement to be implemented and the first flagship scheme launched after the government received a fresh mandate in the Assembly elections held in May.
The Chief Minister said the new phase introduces several reforms aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and ease of access. A key feature is Aadhaar-based beneficiary verification, which will help ensure that financial assistance reaches only genuine beneficiaries while eliminating duplicate entries from the system.
To improve service delivery, the government will also deploy dedicated Orunodoi Sarathis in every Assembly constituency. These personnel will assist beneficiaries with enrolment, grievance redressal, verification, and other services related to the scheme.
Announcing future plans, Sarma said the government will gradually expand the scope of Orunodoi and increase the amount of monthly assistance, fulfilling its commitment to the women of Assam.

The Chief Minister also unveiled a new financial inclusion initiative under which beneficiaries will be eligible for interest-free loans of up to ₹15,000 against their annual Orunodoi entitlement. The loan amount will be repaid through future monthly assistance without any interest burden. Beneficiaries who choose to avail loans through banks will also have the option of automatic repayment through deductions from their monthly Orunodoi benefits.
During the programme, Sarma thanked the women of Assam for standing in solidarity with Orunodoi families in the four flood-affected districts, describing their compassion and support as a testament to the spirit of the scheme.
Reaffirming his government's commitment, the Chief Minister said Orunodoi would continue to be strengthened to make it more accessible, responsive, and empowering for every eligible family across the State.
