Aizawl, July 22: The new building of Mamit District Hospital was officially handed over to the Mizoram Government on Wednesday during a formal ceremony organised by the Health & Family Welfare Department at the Office Chamber of Health & Family Welfare Minister Pi Lalrinpuii in MINECO, Aizawl.

The handover ceremony marked the completion of a major healthcare infrastructure project aimed at significantly strengthening medical services in Mamit district. During the programme, Zamzo Engineering Construction & Consultancy proprietor Pu Ronnie Zolianngura formally handed over the completed hospital building to the Government of Mizoram in the presence of Health & Family Welfare Minister Pi Lalrinpuii and senior officials of the department.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Pi Lalrinpuii recalled that the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the construction of the hospital was signed during the previous government. She said the project was undertaken with financial assistance from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (PFC), New Delhi, in partnership with the Mizoram Government.
The Minister noted that the project experienced delays due to several unforeseen challenges. These included the non-release of the full sanctioned funds during the previous year, the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions, as well as the need for certain design modifications. Despite these setbacks, she expressed satisfaction that the new IPD Block of Mamit District Hospital has now been completed and officially handed over, describing the occasion as a significant milestone for healthcare development in the district.
During the programme, contractor Pu Ronnie Zolianngura presented a brief report on the construction process before officially transferring the completed facility to the state government.
The hospital project was implemented under a 70:30 funding arrangement between the CSR fund of Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (PFC), New Delhi, and the Government of Mizoram. The total project cost amounted to ₹17.934 crore.
The newly constructed hospital building is a five-storey structure with a total built-up area of 4,240.78 square metres. The Memorandum of Agreement for the project was signed on March 6, 2020. Although the construction timeline was extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nationwide lockdowns and required design revisions, the project has now been completed successfully. The Completion Certificate for the building was issued on May 2, 2025.
One of the most significant features of the project is the expansion of inpatient capacity. The new IPD Block increases the hospital's bed strength from the existing 30 beds to 100 beds, greatly enhancing its ability to cater to the healthcare needs of residents across Mamit district.
The upgraded facility is expected to provide improved secondary healthcare services, including enhanced maternal and child healthcare, emergency medical services, modern operation theatres, laboratory facilities, diagnostic imaging and a range of other essential medical services. With these improved facilities, patients in Mamit district are expected to receive better quality treatment closer to home, reducing the need for referrals to tertiary hospitals outside the district.
Officials said the completion of the project represents a major step towards strengthening the public healthcare system in western Mizoram and improving access to quality medical care for thousands of residents.
The handover programme was attended by senior officials of the Health & Family Welfare Department and other government functionaries. The government expressed confidence that the new hospital infrastructure will play a vital role in enhancing healthcare delivery and improving health outcomes for the people of Mamit district.
