Guwahati, July 23: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi has called for urgent intervention by the Central Government to address the worsening flood situation in Assam, describing it as an "epic humanitarian crisis."

In a statement issued on Thursday, Gogoi said that 41 people have lost their lives, several others remain missing, thousands of families have been left homeless, and lakhs of people continue to suffer due to the devastating floods.
Sharing his observations after visiting the flood-affected districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, Gogoi said he witnessed the extent of the devastation and alleged that relief efforts by the local administration were inadequate. According to him, there has been a significant delay in the distribution of emergency relief materials, including food rations, safe drinking water, phenyl, clothing and bleaching powder.
The Congress leader urged the Central Government to immediately send a team of technical experts equipped with the necessary machinery and resources to assist affected communities in rebuilding damaged homes and restoring agricultural activities disrupted by the floods.
He also called on the Assam Government to provide what he described as an honest account of the flood toll and ensure that relief materials reach every affected household without further delay.

Despite criticising the government's response, Gogoi praised the efforts of volunteers and youth groups who have stepped forward to help flood victims. He commended several groups of young people and members of Generation Z for organising relief drives and providing food to hundreds of affected families every day.
Appealing for greater public participation, Gogoi urged all workers and office bearers of the Indian National Congress to actively support relief operations by extending every possible form of assistance to flood-affected villages and families across Assam.
Assam has been reeling under severe floods over the past several days, with large parts of the state inundated, thousands displaced and rescue and relief operations continuing in multiple districts.
