Kohima, June 26: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday inaugurated the Kohima Village Multipurpose Building, describing the newly constructed facility as a reflection of the aspirations, unity, and collective efforts of the community. He expressed hope that the building would serve as a vibrant centre for social interaction, cultural preservation, and collaborative development for generations to come.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said the multipurpose building represents far more than a physical structure. It embodies the vision and shared commitment of the people of Kohima Village to create a common space that promotes harmony, strengthens community bonds, and encourages collective progress.
Rio noted that the hall had been envisioned by the village not only for the benefit of its own residents but as a facility open to all communities. He said the building is intended to serve as a shared platform where people from across Nagaland can come together to celebrate their rich cultural heritage, preserve traditional customs and values, and engage in meaningful discussions on issues of common interest.
"The hall is built not just for the village but for all communities. It is a space for all Nagas to celebrate our heritage, preserve our traditions and culture, and deliberate on matters that concern us collectively," the Chief Minister said.
Highlighting the importance of community infrastructure, Rio said such facilities play a vital role in promoting social cohesion, cultural exchange, and inclusive development. He expressed confidence that the multipurpose building would become a hub for community gatherings, educational programmes, cultural events, and other activities that foster unity and strengthen relationships among different sections of society.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the support extended by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, towards the construction of the building. He conveyed his gratitude to the Ministry for its assistance, stating that the project reflects the Centre's commitment to strengthening community infrastructure and preserving the unique cultural identity of tribal societies.
Rio said the completion of the multipurpose building marks another important step towards reinforcing the values of unity, brotherhood, and mutual respect among the Naga people. He added that the facility would stand as a lasting symbol of cooperation and shared aspirations while contributing to the social and cultural development of the state.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by community leaders, village elders, government officials, and local residents, who welcomed the completion of the long-awaited project and expressed optimism that the new facility would become a focal point for community engagement and cultural activities in the years ahead.
