The Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Churachandpur district on May 15. Churachandpur is one of the Kuki-Zo dominated districts in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, KIM said the situation in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts remains fragile and warned that the proposed visit could trigger public reactions and disturb the law and order situation.
“Ground realities in these areas remain highly sensitive and volatile, with underlying tensions yet to be meaningfully addressed or resolved. In such a fragile environment, any proposed visit at this juncture may reasonably be expected to evoke strong public reactions,” the statement said.

KIM further stated that there is a “genuine and imminent risk” that the visit could act as a flashpoint and undermine ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
The organisation advised the Chief Minister to postpone any visit to Kuki-Zo populated districts until conditions become “demonstrably conducive” for safe, meaningful and constructive public engagement.
KIM also reiterated that it and its affiliated organisations had earlier resolved to oppose any visit by the Manipur government to Kuki-Zo areas until the political demands of the Kuki-Zo people are duly considered.

The statement further warned that any action perceived as disregarding the sentiments and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community, particularly regarding their demand for separate administration, could deepen mistrust and hinder prospects for lasting peace.
