BJP Nagaland Hands Party Ticket to Kezhangutuo Zhotso for Chümoukedima Ward Bye-Election

KOHIMA, May 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland unit on Wednesday organized a formal ticket distribution ceremony at the Ghaspani-1 Mandal Office ahead of the upcoming Chümoukedima Town Council Ward No. 11 bye-election scheduled to be held next month.

The programme marked the official handing over of the BJP party ticket to party candidate Shri Kezhangutuo Zhotso, who will contest the Ward No. 11 (Chaara) seat in the Chümoukedima Town Council.

The ceremony was attended by senior BJP leaders, including Shri Jacob Zhimomi, Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, Government of Nagaland, and Shri Zaremo Kikon, BJP State Vice President and District In-charge.

Addressing party workers and supporters during the event, the leaders expressed confidence in the party’s candidate and called for unity and coordinated efforts ahead of the election. They also encouraged party members to work collectively for the development of the ward and the strengthening of grassroots governance.

Kezhangutuo Zhotso, currently serving as the Vice President of the BJP Chümoukedima Unit, was described by party leaders as an experienced and dedicated public figure who has contributed actively through various public platforms over the years.

According to the BJP Nagaland unit, Zhotso’s candidature represents a “powerful and unified step forward” toward sustainable development, effective leadership, and progress for Ward No. 11.

The bye-election has generated political attention in the district as political parties intensify preparations for the polls. Party workers and supporters from the constituency also attended the ceremony in large numbers.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission has notified that fresh elections will be conducted in Ward 11 (Chaara) of Chümoukedima Town Council, Ward 8 (Tsumang B) of Wokha Town Council, and Ward 9 (Samba Ghoki) of Atoizu Town Council following casual vacancies notified by the government earlier this year.

According to the notification issued under the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023, the election programme has already commenced with publication of the election schedule on May 15, 2026. The nomination filing period will continue from May 25 to May 29 up to 3 PM.

Scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for June 1, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for June 5. The list of contesting candidates and polling stations will also be published on the same day after 3 PM.

Polling for the three municipal wards will be held on June 16, 2026, between 7:30 AM and 4 PM, while counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on June 19 from 8 AM onwards.

The Commission further informed that the electoral roll published on April 12, 2024, under Rule 10 read with Rule 81 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023, shall be used for the election process.
