Churachandpur, April 24: The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights has strongly condemned the alleged armed attack on the Kuki-inhabited villages of Mulam and Songphel in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, describing it as a brutal and unprovoked act of violence against civilians.

In a press release issued on April 24, the organisation stated that the attack occurred in the early hours of the day, at around 5:30 a.m., when heavily armed militants reportedly descended on the villages following reports of blank gunfire earlier in the night.
According to the statement, at least 15 houses were damaged during the incident, while six civilians sustained injuries due to indiscriminate firing. The organisation also claimed that two people lost their lives in the attack.
The KWOHR alleged that the incident reflects a disturbing pattern of violence in the region, citing previous reports of gunfire directed towards nearby villages from areas inhabited by Tangkhul Nagas. The organisation said such incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among villagers.
Condemning the attack in strong terms, the group described violence against unarmed civilians as a grave violation of human rights and called for immediate action by authorities.
Among its demands, KWOHR called for the prompt registration of an FIR and a transparent investigation into the incident, swift identification and arrest of those responsible, and deployment of adequate security forces to protect vulnerable villages and prevent further attacks.

The organisation also urged the government to provide immediate medical assistance and compensation to the injured, along with justice for the families of those who died. It further sought restoration, reconstruction, and rehabilitation support for affected households.
Expressing solidarity with the affected communities, KWOHR appealed to the authorities to take urgent and decisive steps to restore peace, ensure justice, and uphold the rule of law in the region.
