According to police officials, the operation was launched after authorities received credible information regarding the alleged sale and distribution of counterfeit cosmetic products in various parts of Kohima. Acting on the intelligence inputs, police teams carried out coordinated inspections and verification drives at several commercial establishments suspected of dealing in fake beauty and personal care items.
During the operation, checks were conducted at five shops located around Razhü Point and the Y-Junction area, two of the busiest commercial zones in Kohima. Police reportedly recovered a substantial quantity of products that were allegedly being sold under the names of reputed cosmetic brands. Among the items seized were products purportedly marketed as Lakmé cosmetics, which investigators suspect to be counterfeit.
Officials stated that the seized products have been taken into custody for further examination and verification. Authorities are working to determine the source of the goods, the extent of the distribution network, and whether additional individuals or suppliers may be involved in the alleged counterfeit trade.
Following the seizure, a case was registered at the North Police Station, Kohima, under Case No. 0011/2026. The case has been booked under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957, which deals with offences related to copyright infringement and the unauthorized use of registered trademarks and brand identities.

Police confirmed that five accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case and have been remanded to judicial custody. Investigators are currently examining documents, product inventories, and other evidence collected during the operation as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Officials noted that the circulation of counterfeit cosmetics is a matter of serious concern as such products may contain unregulated or harmful ingredients that can pose health risks to consumers. In addition to causing financial losses to legitimate manufacturers and businesses, fake cosmetic products may lead to skin allergies, infections, and other adverse health effects.
Kohima Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant while purchasing beauty and personal care products. Consumers have been advised to buy products only from authorized dealers and trusted retailers, check packaging carefully, and verify product authenticity before use.
The police further appealed to citizens to report any suspicious products or illegal sales activities to the nearest police station. Reiterating their commitment to public safety and consumer protection, officials stated that strict action would continue to be taken against individuals involved in the manufacture, distribution, or sale of counterfeit goods.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out further arrests as they seek to dismantle the network behind the alleged counterfeit cosmetic trade.
