AAPSU is currently functioning under a caretaker arrangement with Dozi Tana Tara serving as Caretaker President. The election process for the 27th General Conference-cum-Election (Session 2026–2029) is scheduled to be completed by February 20, 2026. However, growing disagreements among affiliated DSUs have cast uncertainty over the smooth conduct of the polls.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes during the first day of delegates’ registration, with heated exchanges between members leading to scuffles and police intervention. In a dramatic escalation, protesting members barricaded the AAPSU office gate using heavy wooden logs, restricting movement in and out of the premises.
Sources said some District Students’ Unions have raised concerns over alleged irregularities and lack of transparency in the election procedure. A few DSUs have reportedly refused to participate in the process, questioning inclusivity and consensus within the apex student body.
The All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) has reportedly taken a firm stand, stating that it will not vacate the office premises until its grievances are addressed. Allegations of intimidation and internal rifts among district units have further intensified the situation.

Amid the unrest, massive security arrangements were put in place around the premises. Reports indicated heightened precautionary measures, including restricted access to the office compound. Authorities remained on alert to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, the AAPSU Registration Committee submitted the Final Delegate List for the 27th General Conference-cum-Election to the Chief Election Commissioner, marking the completion of the delegate registration and verification process.
As of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Caretaker President or the central executive committee. Student leaders and senior members are expected to initiate dialogue to restore normalcy and ensure that the democratic process proceeds peacefully and transparently.
