Six Militants Arrested, Large Cache of Arms and Explosives Recovered in Manipur

Imphal, February 26: In a series of coordinated counter-insurgency operations conducted over February 25 and 26, security forces arrested six active militants belonging to different proscribed outfits and recovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from multiple districts across Manipur, police said.

On February 26, security forces arrested an active cadre of KCP (PSC), identified as Prithibiraj Moirangthem alias 3B (26), a resident of Khongman Zone-III, Lisham Leirak in Imphal East district. He was apprehended from his residence under Irilbung Police Station.

On the same day, an active cadre of PREPAK (PRO), Thokchom Raj Singh (25) alias Ibungo of Wangjing Lamding Thokchom Leikai, Thoubal district, was arrested from the Ghari area under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were seized from his possession.

In another operation, an active member of RPF/PLA, Longjam Yaiphaba Angom alias Nanao (30) of Top Upokpi Makha Leikai under Wangoi Police Station, Imphal West district, was arrested from the Waheng Khuman area in Imphal West. Two mobile phones were recovered from him.

Security forces also conducted a search operation at Lairou Ching area under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district, leading to the recovery of:

One AK-56 rifle

One .303 rifle

Three single barrel guns

Two AK magazines

Two HE No. 36 hand grenades

One 51 mm mortar bomb

Forty-six live rounds of ammunition of different calibres

Twenty empty .303 rifle cases

One Kenwood handset

One MP5 holographic sight

Arrests and Recoveries on February 25

On February 25, two active cadres of RPF/PLA — Thingom Mahenjit Singh alias Anao (22) of Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai and Ngangbam Derick Singh (20) of Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Khunou — were arrested from Yaingangpokpi area under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East district.

From their possession, security forces recovered:

One No. 36 hand grenade

One detonator

Ten live rounds of ammunition of different calibres

Two mobile phones

In a separate operation, an alleged extortionist and active RPF/PLA cadre, Moirangthem Jenyson Singh alias Ahenba alias Naobi (26) of Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai, Thoubal district, was arrested from Koirengei Manung Laikon Leirak under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. Three RPF/PLA Foundation Day banners and two mobile phones were seized from him.

Meanwhile, in Kakching district, security forces recovered a large quantity of arms and explosives from Kakching Khunou, Pamchou hill range under Waikhong Police Station. The recovered items included:

One AK-56 rifle with magazine loaded with ten live rounds and bayonet

Two Single Barrel Breech Loading (SBBL) guns

One Double Barrel Breech Loading (DBBL) gun

One .32 pistol with magazine loaded with five live rounds

Two No. 36 hand grenades

Three Emuldyne explosives (Class-2)

Three detonators

256 live rounds of .303 rifle ammunition

Forty-eight 5.56 x 45 mm empty cases

Three stun shells

One tear smoke grenade

One Baofeng handset

One camouflage helmet

One gunny bag

Police stated that the operations were part of intensified efforts to curb insurgent and extortion activities and maintain law and order in the state. Investigations are ongoing, and further operations are expected in sensitive areas.
