In a statement issued on Thursday, the MNF said its Legal Board had formally submitted a memorandum seeking a CBI inquiry into the matter. The representation was addressed to the Chief Vigilance Officer of Mizoram, who also serves as the Chief Secretary, urging that the issue be handed over to the central investigative agency for a comprehensive and impartial probe.

According to the party, the memorandum was received on behalf of the Chief Secretary by Lalhlimpuii, Senior Personal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary. The MNF argued that the allegations surrounding the Lengpui land issue involve matters that go beyond the jurisdiction and investigative capacity of the state government. The party therefore maintained that only a central agency such as the CBI would be able to conduct a thorough and credible investigation capable of establishing the facts and addressing public concerns.

The opposition party reiterated that transparency and accountability are essential in matters involving public land and government institutions. It stressed that a CBI investigation would help ensure public confidence and provide clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged land acquisition.

Meanwhile, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has also announced plans to seek a CBI inquiry into the issue. In a separate statement, the party said that its Media Committee Chairman, B. Lalchhanzova, would submit a request to the CBI on February 6, seeking an investigation into the alleged acquisition of land at Lengpui and Sihphir by the Indian Air Force.

ZPM stated that the people of Mizoram deserve accurate and transparent information regarding the matter and emphasized the need for a credible investigation to establish the truth at the earliest. The party said that public confidence can only be restored through an independent inquiry conducted by an agency with the necessary authority and resources.

The ruling party also criticized the demand made by the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) for an inquiry by the Vigilance Commission (VUC). According to ZPM, such an investigation may not carry the same level of credibility or effectiveness as a CBI probe. The party suggested that opposition groups seeking a thorough investigation should consider filing a formal complaint or First Information Report (FIR) through appropriate channels to facilitate a direct CBI inquiry.

The Lengpui land issue has emerged as one of the most discussed political controversies in Mizoram in recent weeks. The matter has generated widespread public interest and prompted demands for greater transparency regarding land transactions and administrative decisions linked to the alleged acquisition.

Political observers note that the rare convergence of opinion between the ruling party and the opposition on the need for a CBI probe reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the importance attached to the issue. As calls for an independent investigation continue to grow, attention is now focused on the response of the concerned authorities and whether a formal CBI inquiry will be initiated.

With multiple political parties seeking central intervention, the controversy is expected to remain a major topic of public and political discussion in the coming weeks.
