The night-long operation covered the fire-affected regions of Mangshila, Jhushing, and Namok, where authorities closely observed the situation to ensure the safety of residents and minimise the risk of further damage. Drone cameras were deployed to provide real-time aerial surveillance of the affected hillside, enabling officials to assess inaccessible areas, identify potential hotspots, and monitor the overall ground situation more effectively.
Based on the drone surveillance and field assessments, the administration prepared necessary contingency plans to respond swiftly to any emergency that might arise. Officials stated that the deployment of advanced technology, combined with coordinated efforts on the ground, significantly strengthened disaster management preparedness and facilitated informed decision-making during the operation.
The continued vigil followed a major fire that erupted on February 19 in Lower Jhushing, posing a serious threat to nearby settlements and forested areas. The District Administration responded promptly by mobilising Fire and Emergency Services, Sikkim Police, Forest Department personnel, Army units, and local volunteers, whose sustained efforts successfully brought the blaze under control. Their coordinated response helped prevent the fire from spreading further and ensured the safety of residents living in the vicinity.
