Tripura Observes National Youth Day, Pays Tribute to Swami Vivekananda

Agartala, January 13: Tripura marked National Youth Day with a vibrant and inspiring programme dedicated to the life, teachings and enduring legacy of Swami Vivekananda, reaffirming the state's commitment to empowering young people and encouraging their active participation in nation-building.

The event was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, senior government officials, educators, students, youth representatives and members of various social and cultural organizations. The programme celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, whose vision and philosophy continue to inspire generations of Indians.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in the modern era, particularly his belief that the youth are the driving force behind social transformation and national progress. He urged young people to embrace values such as discipline, self-confidence, integrity and dedication to service, which were central to Vivekananda’s message.

“The youth of today are the architects of tomorrow’s India. Swami Vivekananda believed in the immense potential of young minds, and his teachings continue to guide us in building a strong, progressive and self-reliant nation,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha emphasized that empowering youth through education, skill development, innovation and leadership opportunities remains a key priority of the government. He noted that the state has been implementing various initiatives aimed at enhancing employability, promoting entrepreneurship and encouraging participation in sports and cultural activities.

During the programme, several young achievers were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in fields such as academics, sports, social service, arts and innovation. The awards were presented as a recognition of their dedication and accomplishments, while also serving as an inspiration for other young people to strive for excellence.

Speaking on the occasion, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy underscored the importance of creating platforms that allow young people to develop their talents and leadership skills. Officials noted that National Youth Day is observed every year on January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, to honour his contribution to India's spiritual and intellectual heritage. The programme featured cultural performances, motivational speeches and discussions on youth empowerment, reflecting the spirit of Swami Vivekananda’s message of self-belief and service to humanity.
