The agreement was formally signed at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare in Kohima and is expected to usher in a new era of technology-driven healthcare services, particularly in regions where difficult terrain and limited connectivity often hinder the timely delivery of medical assistance.
The initiative aims to leverage drone technology to address several critical healthcare challenges. Under the programme, drones will be used for the rapid transportation of essential medicines, vaccines, blood products, diagnostic samples and emergency medical supplies to remote and hard-to-reach areas. The technology will also support emergency response operations during disease outbreaks, natural disasters and other public health emergencies.
In addition, drones are expected to assist in vector control programmes and geospatial mapping, enabling authorities to gather accurate data for planning, monitoring and decision-making. Officials noted that such capabilities would help improve healthcare preparedness and strengthen the state’s overall public health infrastructure.
As per the agreement, NGISRSC will be responsible for managing drone operations, conducting capacity-building programmes, analysing data and ensuring compliance with all applicable aviation and regulatory guidelines. The Department of Health & Family Welfare will provide logistical support, coordinate with relevant stakeholders and oversee deployment planning to ensure the effective implementation of the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Project Director of NGISRSC, Er. Mhathung Kithan, highlighted the growing importance of emerging technologies in governance and public service delivery. He stated that integrating drone technology into healthcare systems would significantly improve the efficiency, reach and responsiveness of medical services across Nagaland.
Principal Director of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mereninla Senlem, emphasized that the collaboration would strengthen the state's preparedness for emergencies and disasters. She noted that drone-enabled delivery systems could prove invaluable in ensuring the timely availability of life-saving medicines, vaccines and medical equipment during critical situations when conventional transportation methods may be delayed.

Officials described the MoA as a milestone in Nagaland’s efforts to build a resilient and future-ready healthcare system. Beyond improving service delivery, the initiative is expected to serve as a model of inter-departmental collaboration, demonstrating how innovative technologies can be harnessed to enhance public welfare and bridge geographical barriers.
The partnership reflects the state government's commitment to adopting innovative solutions to improve healthcare accessibility, particularly for communities living in remote and underserved areas, while laying the foundation for a more efficient, responsive and technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem.
