Likha Nari Tadar Sworn In as First Woman Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation

Itanagar, January 12: The oath-taking ceremony of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) for the 2026–2030 term was held on Monday, marking the formal assumption of office by the newly elected municipal leadership and corporators.

Smti. Likha Nari Tadar was sworn in as the new Mayor, becoming the first woman Mayor in the history of Itanagar, while Shri Tok Tabin Camdir took oath as the Deputy Mayor. Both leaders are first-time office-bearers and will serve the IMC for the 2025–2030 tenure.

The ceremony was held at the DK Convention Centre (DK Hall), where all 20 corporators elected from Ward No. 1 to Ward No. 20, covering the Itanagar Capital Complex from Chimpu to Banderdewa, were administered the oath of affirmation. Certificates of election were distributed to the corporators, formally inaugurating the new municipal council.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged dominant in the December 15, 2025 IMC elections, securing 14 of the 20 wards. Likha Nari Tadar, elected from Ward No. 16, and Tok Tabin Camdir, elected from Ward No. 19, were the BJP’s official candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor, finalised with the approval of the party’s state election committee.

The swearing-in ceremony and first meeting of the IMC were witnessed by several dignitaries, including Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Urban Affairs Commissioner Vivek Pandey, IMC Commissioner K Jelen, and Returning Officer Gyamar Tuvin, along with senior officials from the Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies departments.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Balo Raja congratulated the newly elected Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and corporators, urging them to work with unity, sincerity, and team spirit for the overall development of the state capital. He advised the corporators to focus on revenue generation and sustainable urban development, rather than relying solely on government schemes.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu also extended his congratulations, stating that the swearing-in marked a new chapter in Itanagar’s urban governance and expressing confidence that the new leadership would work towards a cleaner, greener, and more progressive capital city.

With the completion of the oath-taking ceremony, the new IMC council formally commenced its tenure, setting the stage for the next phase of civic governance in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital.
