Churachandpur/Tuibong, Jan 14: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) and the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) on Wednesday organised a peaceful public rally across Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, calling upon the Government of India to expedite a lasting political solution addressing the demands of the Kuki-Zo people.
Issued under ITLF’s Rally Notification dated January 12, the mobilisation followed the end of President’s Rule in Manipur next month and cited the prolonged displacement, insecurity, and humanitarian distress faced by the community. Organisers reiterated that the Kuki-Zo people would not participate in or engage with any popularly elected government through their representatives until a political settlement is achieved.
The main rally commenced at 11:00 a.m. from designated gathering points and culminated at the Peace Ground, where leaders addressed participants. The event, themed “Expedite Our Political Solution,” was conducted peacefully, underscoring the community’s commitment to democratic and constitutional means. Schools and institutions along the route remained closed during the rally hours, while civil society groups extended logistical support.
Leaders emphasised the need for an alternative administrative arrangement to ensure safety, dignity and long-term stability for the Kuki-Zo people. They clarified that the rally was not directed against any community, but was a collective appeal for justice, peace and political clarity.
Following the programme, ITLF and KZC leaders submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister through the District Administration at Churachandpur, outlining their demands and urging early intervention.
Similar peaceful rallies were also held in Tengnoupal, Chandel and Kangpokpi, reflecting broad participation across Kuki-Zo inhabited districts.
