Imphal, January 28: The Governor of Manipur on Wednesday inaugurated the 7th Manipur Women’s International Polo Tournament 2026 at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung in Imphal, marking the beginning of one of the state's most prestigious sporting events. The tournament celebrates women's excellence in polo while showcasing Manipur's rich cultural heritage as the birthplace of the modern game.
The grand opening ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from players, officials, and spectators, with women's polo teams from India and several other countries assembling to compete in the international tournament. The event featured colourful cultural performances and ceremonial proceedings before the commencement of the opening matches, reflecting the unique blend of sport and tradition that has made the tournament internationally recognised.
