The initiative aimed to promote gender equality, leadership, and awareness on women’s and children’s safety. The programme began with salutations and a Guard of Honour, followed by a formal briefing and oath-taking ceremony, during which Ms Yapi Pujan pledged to uphold the values of justice, empathy, courage, and public service.
The entire programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of OC Amum Panyang, who ensured proper orientation, safety, and meaningful exposure for the student throughout the day. As part of her symbolic role, Ms Pujan inspected the Women Police Station, observed record maintenance, and was briefed on the station’s functioning, particularly procedures related to women- and child-related cases. Police personnel explained the responsibilities of officers, stressing sensitivity and professionalism in handling such matters.
A special awareness session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was also conducted. During the session, police officials explained key provisions of the Act in simple terms, focusing on child rights, the importance of reporting offences, and the collective role of police, parents, and society in ensuring child safety.
The programme further included outreach visits and police patrolling at educational institutions such as Daying Ering Memorial Government Higher Secondary School and Independent Golden Jubilee Government Higher Secondary School. During the visits, police personnel demonstrated regular school patrolling procedures, interaction with school authorities, monitoring of school surroundings, and measures taken to maintain a safe and secure environment for students.
Police officials interacted with students and teachers, sensitising them on personal safety, legal awareness, and the importance of seeking police assistance when required. Ms Pujan observed firsthand how police engage with educational institutions to ensure student safety.

In a parallel engagement, the student Officer-in-Charge also actively patrolled parts of Pasighat town, visited JE examination centres, listened to public grievances, briefed police personnel, and gained practical exposure to the day-to-day functioning of a police station.
The East Siang District Police said the initiative was educational and motivational, aimed at inspiring young girls, building confidence, and encouraging them to aspire for leadership roles and careers in policing and public service. Officials noted that the programme served as a powerful reminder of the strength, capability, and limitless potential of the girl child, making National Girl Child Day both meaningful and inspiring.
