Aizawl, January 25: C. Lalsawmzuala has been appointed as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) following approval by the Governor of Mizoram, based on a claim submitted by the United Legislature Party.

According to an official communication issued by the Governor’s Secretariat, Aizawl, Pu C. Lalsawmzuala, leader of the United Legislature Party comprising the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Indian National Congress (INC), submitted a formal claim seeking appointment as CEM of the LADC. The claim was supported by 14 Members of the District Council (MDCs) belonging to the United Legislature Party.
After examining the claim, the Governor, exercising powers under sub-rule (4) of Rule 21 of the LADC (CCB, etc.) Rules, 2010, approved the appointment of Pu C. Lalsawmzuala as the Chief Executive Member of the council.
The communication further stated that the newly appointed CEM has been directed to seek and secure a vote of confidence on January 29, 2026, a day after the first sitting of the Lai Autonomous District Council.

The Governor’s Secretariat has also requested the Department of District Council and Minority Affairs (DC&MA) to issue the necessary notification to formally complete the appointment process and facilitate the confidence vote.
The development marks a significant step in the formation of a new executive body of the Lai Autonomous District Council following the recent district council elections, paving the way for the council to begin its administrative functioning.
