Itanagar, December 2: Arunachal Pradesh’s rising taekwondo star, Rupa Bayor, has secured a bronze medal at the World Taekwondo President Cup, Europe (WT G3) held in Innsbruck, Austria, from 29 to 30 November. The high-ranking event, organised by the Austrian Taekwondo Federation, brought together 48 elite athletes from various countries, offering a competitive platform for world-class performers.
Bayor’s podium finish adds another significant milestone to her expanding list of international achievements. Earlier this year, she clinched gold at the 4th Senior National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, dominating the Recognized Individual Poomsae - U30 category.
Her consistent performance has propelled her into the top 10 of the World Taekwondo Poomsae Rankings, now standing at World Rank 9. Her remarkable rise - from 123rd in 2021 to 42nd in 2022, 12th in 2023, and now comfortably within the top tier - also makes her the No. 1 ranked athlete in Asia in her category.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Bayor on social media, lauding her “dedication, discipline and fighting spirit” and noting that her achievements continue to make both the state and the nation proud.
Bayor’s journey reflects exceptional perseverance and commitment, positioning her as one of India’s leading taekwondo athletes. Her success continues to inspire young sportspersons in Arunachal Pradesh and across the country, showcasing the growing talent emerging from India’s Northeast.
