Itanagar, Aug 6, 2025: In a major push towards digital governance and citizen-centric service delivery, the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) has launched a pilot online water bill payment system, enabling residents to pay their water bills conveniently from anywhere.
The initiative, introduced by the Public Health Engineering Department and Water Supply (PHED & WS), is aimed at modernizing public services and making utility payments more accessible, efficient, and transparent. The new system is expected to significantly reduce the need for consumers to visit payment counters in person, saving time and improving overall service delivery.
The launch marks an important step in the state government's broader efforts to embrace digital technology and strengthen e-governance. By allowing residents to make payments online, the system seeks to streamline administrative processes while ensuring greater accountability and convenience for consumers.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu welcomed the initiative and described it as a significant milestone in the state's digital transformation journey. He lauded the efforts of the PHED & WS Department in leveraging technology to improve public services and bring government facilities closer to citizens.
Calling the project a “big leap in e-governance,” Khandu said the online payment platform reflects the government's commitment to adopting innovative solutions that enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of access. He emphasized that digital initiatives such as this can help bridge service gaps and improve interactions between citizens and government departments.
Officials from the department stated that the online water bill payment system has been launched on a pilot basis and will be closely monitored during the initial phase. Feedback from users and operational performance will be assessed to identify areas for improvement before the service is expanded further.
If successfully implemented, the system is expected to be rolled out across the Itanagar Capital Region and potentially extended to other parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative is anticipated to improve revenue collection, reduce administrative burdens, and provide residents with a more convenient and efficient method of managing their utility payments.
