Addressing the NCC Fest organised by the 2 Mizo Battalion NCC at Thuamluaia Mual in Lunglei on May 8, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the growing menace of substance abuse among the youth in Mizoram. He urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to participate in NCC activities, noting that such programmes provide valuable guidance and positive direction during formative years.

Lalduhoma said drug addiction continues to pose a serious challenge to society, affecting many young people and their families. He stressed that youth require proper mentorship, constructive engagement, and opportunities for personal development to resist harmful influences. In this regard, he described the NCC as one of the most effective platforms for nurturing character and discipline among students.

The Chief Minister highlighted that NCC training instils important values such as self-discipline, self-control, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and a sense of responsibility. These qualities, he said, help young people develop confidence and become productive members of society. He added that the organisation not only prepares cadets for careers in the defence and security sectors but also equips them with life skills that are beneficial in any profession.

Lalduhoma noted that many former NCC cadets from Mizoram have gone on to serve in the Indian Armed Forces, Police Services, and the Territorial Army, while others have excelled in various professional fields. He said their achievements demonstrate the positive impact of NCC training on personal and career development.

The Chief Minister also commended the efforts of the 2 Mizo Battalion NCC in promoting youth development and strengthening the organisation’s presence across the state. He observed that the NCC in Mizoram has witnessed significant growth since the establishment of its own NCC Group Headquarters, enabling wider participation and more opportunities for young people.

According to Lalduhoma, the NCC continues to play a crucial role in nation-building by fostering patriotism, discipline, and social responsibility among the younger generation. He encouraged cadets to make the most of the opportunities available through the organisation and to serve as role models within their communities.

Welcoming NCC cadets and participants from neighbouring states, the Chief Minister said events such as the NCC Fest help promote unity, friendship, and mutual understanding among people from diverse backgrounds. He added that such interactions strengthen national integration while allowing participants to appreciate different cultures and traditions.

The NCC Fest, being held from May 5 to May 11, is the first event of its kind organised in Mizoram. The week-long programme features a variety of activities, including cultural performances, exhibitions, demonstrations, competitions, and award distribution ceremonies. Organisers said the festival aims to showcase the achievements of NCC cadets while encouraging greater youth participation in the organisation.

The programme was attended by Health Minister Lalrinpuii, legislators from Lunglei district, senior NCC officials, district administration officers, and members of the public.

Officials said the festival reflects the growing importance of NCC activities in Mizoram and serves as a platform to inspire young people to pursue discipline, leadership, and service to society.
