In a statement posted on social media, Gogoi alleged that the Chief Minister had claimed to rely on the Supreme Court’s “own words” from a case involving former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, but that the quoted language did not originate from the apex court. According to Gogoi, the Supreme Court neither authored nor adopted the words cited by Sarma.

Calling the act a “blatant lie,” Gogoi said passing off an executive report as a judicial pronouncement amounted to deliberate contempt. He further argued that for a Chief Minister holding a constitutional office to falsely attribute statements to the Supreme Court was not only contemptuous but also an assault on constitutional propriety and institutional integrity.
Gogoi added that the Hon’ble Supreme Court may take cognisance of the remarks made by Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that they violate constitutional norms and wrongly invoke the authority of the apex court.
There was no immediate response from the Assam Chief Minister to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
